was born in Bareilly, North India, in 1899. He was a descendent of the great 18th century Chishti saint, Shah Niyaz Ahmad. ‘Aziz Miyan become the lineage-bearer of the Niyaziyya branch of the Chishtiyya. He was adept in the arts of alchemy, gemology, medicine, music, calligraphy, fencing, swordsmanship, marksmanship and the manufacture of fireworks. He composed poetry in Persian, Urdu and Hindi, under the pen name Raz (secret). He was even rumored to have miraculous powers including the ability to foretell the future. In 1968 ‘Aziz Miyan died and was succeeded by his son.
